Hi,
My name is Ed Sharp owner and operator of SharpPhoto.com
(The online home of Ed Sharp Photography)
I was born and raised in Greenwich New York and live
in Greenwich today.
I graduated from Rhode Island School of Photography where
I was trained in
Photojournalism, Commercial and Portrait Photography.
I have been a working Photographer since 1985,
working in many different photographic fields and specialties.
After graduating from Photography School,
I gained invaluable photography experience working for
The
Eagle,
a weekly Newspaper in Cambridge, NY.
Shooting local sports, events and news and
developing the images in my own darkroom
helped me develop the skills that I rely on today in
my work.
It was also my first taste of working on a deadline.
Even though the deadline was only once a week.
I spent quite a few years as a Wildlife and Nature Photographer,
which took me to many interesting places and taught me
many lessons about photography and life.
I got the chance to photograph Bears & Eagles in
Alaska
and spent a lot of time photographing the local
wildlife in New York State as well.
Adirondack Scenic Photography was something that was
also a
specialty of mine, shooting the beauty of
the Adirondack mountains and streams with my 4x5 View
Camera.
There is nothing like the color of the Adirondacks in
October.
I displayed and sold my Nature Photography work
at many galleries, art shows and craft fairs.
In 1997 I started my web site, SharpPhoto.com
as a way to sell my Nature photography.
Though I don't get the chance to do as much Nature Photography
as I used to,
leasing images rights to my nature photography and
selling photographs of nature subjects continues to be
an active part of my business.
Over the years SharpPhoto.com has evolved with me as
I have developed my Photography business into what it
is today.
I worked as a Staff Photographer for the Post Star, a
daily paper in Glens Falls.
This was my first taste of using professional digital
photography equipment.
It was love at first click. I was born to shoot digital.
I welcomed the chance to be able to
immediately see the results of what I was shooting and
to
never have to work in a darkroom with smelly chemicals
again.
It was also a chance to work on a very tight deadline,
every day.
The Post Star's Chief Photographer Monty Calvert shared
with me much of his
Knowledge about photography and specific photographic
situations
from his 30+ years at the paper.
Working with editors and reporters on assignments
gave me a chance to share a combined
vision and play a part in telling a bigger story through
images.
As a Freelance Photographer I have done work for real
estate companies,
colleges, museums, corporate businesses, yearbook companies,
galleries,
and countless individual clients.
My Photography has appeared various publications including
News Day and Adirondack Life Magazine.
Freelance Photography keeps me shooting many different
subjects and situations.
I enjoy the diversity that shooting freelance provides
as well as the challenges
often involved. Working on my own or contracting
to help fill the needs of a
specific project for a client, the end goal is the same,
to provide great photography to help tell a story through
images .
One of the main focuses of my Photography today is Sports
and Event Photography.
Baseball, triathlons, biathlons, running, biking,
adventure races,
football, soccer, track events, skiing, snow boarding,
swimming,
equine events, motor sports, just to name a few.
If it is something people have a passion for, it is something
I enjoy shooting.
That is the one quality all the things I shoot have in
common is the
passion of the participants and spectators for their
events.
What brings me satisfaction is being able to capture
that passion and
the excitement of the day with my camera.
To be able to provide images that will
forever remind them of that moment in time,
that special day and that special feeling.
I strive to provide the best photography possible and
make it available as soon as possible.
I usually have the event up and online the same evening
of the event.
That is where my experiences working on a tight deadline
have helped me.
I look forward to the continuing evolution of my Photography
business
and to shooting even more sports & events.
