Bear with Kayak
Bear with Kayak From a blind in a tree on the edge of a lake in South East Alaska I photographed this Sub-adult Brown Bear playing with my Kayak. I had been in my blind all day with no action of any kind and was thinking about calling it a day, until I spotted this Brown Bear walking up the beach in the distance. I photographed the Bear with my 600mm telephoto lens as he approached and had to switch to a 200mm as he went under my blind, heading for my Kayak. The Bear cautiously approached the kayak sniffing it to see what it might be. Next the Bear climbed on top of the kayak which was upside down at the time and began a kind of bouncing motion. This Bear was pushing his weight on and off his front paws as if trying to collapse the kayak. When he got nowhere with that routine he got off and tried to bite through the bottom of it. At this point I was yelling at the Bear to get off, but nothing I did made him even look up. Then he reached his arm over and flipped the Kayak over (as the photo shows). Finding nothing to eat, he glanced up at me in the tree and walked off as if disgusted. |
