Mother fishing with cubs
One of the most dangerous Bears that a human can encounter is a mother Bear protecting her young. Young cubs are often killed by predators and adult male Bears, this puts the mother Bear on the defensive. When hiking in Bear country it is recommended to make a lot of noise. If given the chance most Bears will avoid human contact whenever possible. While the overabundance of food during this time of year may give the impression that these Bears have it easy, this is not the case. This time of year is vital for the Bear's survival, especially for females with cubs or those that are expected to give birth during the winter. If a pregnant female Bear does not put on enough weight during the Summer and Fall she may loose the cubs. This was an other one those photographs that required shooting many rolls to get the shot I was looking for. This was photographed with a 200mm lens shooting at around 5 frames per second.
